Clock Running Out on Voter Registration Deadline
October 3rd, 2008 by flanewsMonday is the deadline for people to register to vote in the November 4th presidential election. An estimated 600,000 new voters have registered in Florida this year. The Division of Elections has hired extra staff and extended work hours to keep up with the thousands of new applications pouring in everyday. Secretary of State spokeswoman Jennifer Davis said as long as Floridians get their applications in the mail by October 6th, they should be able to vote.
“You can go to the local supervisor’s office and get a form. They can download a form on the internet but please make sure it’s postmarked by October 6th, and you’re registration will be processed and you’ll be an active voter,” said Davis.
When filling out a new voter registration form, don’t make any typos. Thousands of applications have been bounced back because of the No Match law, which requires voter registration forms to match up with a state database. People who have typos in their forms will be sent a letter asking them to fix the mistakes.
