Unemployment Tops 8 Percent

Florida’s unemployment rate is now 8.1 percent, which is nine-tenths of a point higher than the national average. There are now 255,000 more Floridians out of work than there were a year ago. A staggering 752,000 people are looking for work in the Sunshine State. Florida’s December 2008 unemployment rate is the highest since September 1992, when the rate was 8.9 percent.
