Lawmaker Takes Aim at High Electric Bills

February 4th, 2009 by flanews

Some Progress Energy customers are struggling to pay their electric bills after a 25 percent rate hike went into effect last month.

The rate hike was passed to help the company deal with this summers rising fuel cost and to build a nuclear power plant. State Senator Mike Fasano has filed legislation to reduce the cost by 11 percent.

Here we are in one of toughest economic crisis weve seen, especially here in Florida, for years. The last thing my constituents, for that matter any constituents can afford, is a 25 percent increase in their electric bill, said Fasano.

Fasano is also seeking refunds for customers.
