Future of Claims Bill Uncertain

April 21st, 2009 by flanews

A claims bill for a man injured in a car accident with a Broward County Sheriffs Deputy passed an important Senate committee Tuesday.

Ten years ago, Eric Brody suffered brain damage after an off duty officer plowed into his car. A judge awarded the Brodys 30 million dollars, but the state legislature has to sign off on the deal. The claims bill is moving through the Senate, but isnt scheduled to be heard in the House. Erics mom Sharon Brody says shell keep fighting for her son.

It is what it is. Well keep fighting year after year. Its no different. As long as it takes to get what he deserves, said Sharon.

A Senate committee amended the bill so that if the governor signs it the money would have to come from the insurance company of the Broward County Sheriffs Office, not taxpayers.
