It\u2019s been more than seven years since Florida Universities raised tuition. And this year lawmakers face a pandemic induced 2 point 7 billion decline in revenue, which, as Mike Vasilinda tells us, has lawmakers putting tuition hikes back on the table.<\/p>\n

<\/iframe><\/p>\nAt six thousand three hundred and seventy dollars a year, University tuition in Florida, before fees,\u00a0 <\/span>is the second in lowest in the nation. Only Wyoming charges less.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\u201cAnd so our product by any scale comparable is a fraction, in most cases, of other states, and its something we\u2019ll have to look at\u201d says newly sworn in Senate President Wilton Simpson (R-Pasco County).<\/p>\nFlordia lawmakers face the toughest budget balancing act they\u2019ve seen in a decade. Now as US Senator, he\u2019s weighing in again.<\/p>\nIn a speech to the conservative Heritage Foundation, Scott says he will soon file federal legislation penalizing states that hike tuition.<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.flanews.com\/still1201_00002\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-64303\" cut off if tuition or fees are increased.\u201d<\/p>\nAt he other end of the legislature, House Speaker Chris Sprowls says not all degrees should cost the same.<\/p>\n\u201cIf they can get on line and engage in higher in higher education as a way to help them find a job, then lets make that as easy as possible for them\u201d says Sprowls (R-Clearwater).<\/p>\nIn the end, any tuition hike would have to get the okay from the governor, and Ron DeSantis has said in the past:<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.flanews.com\/still1201_00005\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft was before the pandemic.<\/p>\nSo far, United Faculty of Florida, the union representing professors hasn\u2019t taken a position on supporting a tuition hike.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n\n\t\t<style
