The Florida Department of Health is pushing back after media reports grabbed national headlines once again suggesting the state has undercounted COVID deaths.<\/p>\n

The Department of Health argues the study cited in the articles says no such thing.<\/p>\n

<\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ajph.aphapublications.org\/doi\/10.2105\/AJPH.2020.306130\">A study from the University of Utah<\/a> found Florida had nearly 5,000 more excess deaths between January and September than the state\u2019s official COVID death toll.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo. Florida is not undercounting deaths,\u201d said Dr. Shamarial Roberson, Deputy Director of Health for the Florida Department of Health. \u201cWe capture all reported deaths related to COVID-19. So excess analyzing and this forecasting tool is just a tool to look at other things that may be happening in the background,\u201d said Roberson.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<style
