Lockout Scaring off the Fans
June 1st, 2011 by flanewsPatience among football fans is wearing thin as negotiations between the NFL and its players drag on.
A Ron Sachs-Mason Dixon poll released today shows that as many as one in four Florida fans will boycott NFL games if the lockout drags on too long. Ron Sachs says the league will lose some big bucks if a fourth of its fan base loses interest.
“We’ve got three pro football teams in Florida, here as well as nationally, if 27 percent of fans stay home and the average fan spends 76 dollars per game on tickets, food and apparel, that’s a devastating economic loss,” said Sachs.
Sachs says the boycott may not hurt the state as much as the NFL, because those fans will likely spend their money at other Florida attractions.
